Attack on trans rights - Transgender people in the sharia-ruled Indonesian province of Aceh have been fleeing amid fears of further violence, in the same week the national parliament proposed criminalising gay and all extramarital sex. In the capital of Banda Aceh, many transgender people have fled following the arrest and public shaming of 12 trans women in North Aceh. The 12 women were arrested on Saturday night when police and locals raided beauty salons and forced them to strip off their shirts and have their hair cut in public.
Hijab protest - 29 women have been arrested in Iran and are accused of being ‘deceived’ into joining protests against a law that states wearing the hijab is compulsory. Women across the country have been protesting by climbing onto telecom boxes, taking off their headscarves and waving them on sticks.
Natalie Wood’s death - Nearly 40 years after actress Natalie Wood died mysteriously on a boat trip to Santa Catalina Island in 1981, investigators have named her husband Robert Wagner as a person of interest. CBS will be airing a special about the case – Natalie Wood: Death in Dark Water – which was reopened in 2011 after the captain of the Splendour, Dennis Davern, stated he had initially lied to police and believed Wagner to be responsible for Wood’s death. Davern alleged that Wagner and Wood had an argument that evening that escalated.
Rescued - At least 900 gold miners who were trapped in a South African mine for more than 24 hours after a power outage were safely evacuated on Friday morning. The Sibanye-Stillwater company, which manages the Beatrix mine in Free State province, said the miners will have medical tests and counselling.
Castro’s son dead - The eldest son of Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro has killed himself in Havana, according to Cuban state media. Fidel Ángel Castro Díaz-Balart, 68, was found on Thursday morning and is believed to have suffered from depression. He was a nuclear physicist, trained by the former Soviet Union.
It’s a bird’s life - A famous gannet called Nigel has died alone after he fell in love with a concrete bird. Nigel spent three years with the decoy on Mana Island, New Zealand, trying to strike up a relationship with it. However, his feelings for the statue were never reciprocated and he was found dead next to the fake bird and dozens of other fake birds. They were put there in 1976 to try and start a colony, but only a few ever came.
