The 74-year-old American actor insulted the president before raising both fists in the air, igniting an impassioned round of applause from the A-list audience. All eyes on Singapore for Trump-Kim summit
American and North Korean officials have met in Singapore as Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un prepare for their highly-anticipated summit on Tuesday. North Korea spoke of establishing a new ‘permanent peace-keeping mechanism’ and its state-run news agency hailed a ‘new era’ in relations with the US. Trump tweeted on Monday about how pleased he was to be in Singapore: ‘Excitement in the air!’ he wrote in a tweet.
Italian mayors defy government over migrant boat
Mayors across the south of Italy have come together and pledged to defy a move set by the new Italian government – made up of the far right and populists – to prevent a rescue boat with 629 people on board from docking in the Sicilian capital. The interior minister, Matteo Salvini, said on Sunday that all Italian ports were closed to the rescue boat, named Aquarius. The Maltese government also refused to take the boat, saying international law required that the migrants should be taken to Italian ports.
Justin Trudeau ‘stabbed America in the back’
Donald’s Trump’s chief economic adviser said the US pulled out of a G7 communique because Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau ‘stabbed us in the back’. He also accused the Canadian leader of playing a ‘sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption’. During an interview with CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Larry Kudlow also said Trudeau had instigated ‘a betrayal’ and was ‘essentially double-crossing President Trump’
Hong Kong independence activist jailed
A leading Hong Kong independence activist has been jailed for six years for his involvement in some of the city’s most violent protests in decades. Edward Leung was convicted in May of rioting over the 2016 running battles with police, when demonstrators hurled bricks at authorities and set rubbish alight in the commercial district of Mong Kok.
Kim and Trump: A meeting between ‘two dictators’
‘Fox & Friends’ co-host Abby Huntsman made an incredible faux pas on Sunday while discussing the upcoming summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. She called it a meeting between ‘two dictators’. Huntsman and guest Anthony Scaramucci - who was famously fired as White House communications director after just 10 days in office - spoke about the summit on Sunday’s programme. ‘This is history,’ Huntsman said, ‘Regardless of what happens in that meeting between the two dictators, what we are seeing right now ― this is history,’ she continued.
