Who says graduation photos have to include family - or people?

Graduation is a seminal moment for most students, with family pictures surrounded by smiling faces usually the order of the day.

But for one Texas A&M alumna graduate, such pictures are not exciting enough and she opted for a more exotic take on the traditional graduation photobook.

Makenzie Alexis Noland's graduation photos include one very special friend of hers - a 13-foot alligator.

She shared her photos on Friday with the caption: ‘Not your typical graduation photo.’ The images have since gone viral, capturing the affections of people around the world.

The photos, taken by Arlie Hammonds, show a sweet and interactive moment in the waters of Gator Country, where Noland was an intern. She was joined by the 13-foot alligator, known as Big Tex.

Noland will be graduating from Texas A&M with a major in Wildlife Ecology and will no doubt stay in close contact with her reptile friend.

Noland wrote on Facebook yesterday: ‘Hello everybody!! Thank you to everyone who has shared my posts and given me all of this support! I am overwhelmed with how viral my post has gotten and to see everyone from my hometown pushing me to move forward and supporting me is truly incredible!

‘Y’all are the ones who made this happen and I couldn’t be more thankful! I’m hoping to make y’all proud!’
