A police officer violently arrested the nurse for simply following protocol

A Utah nurse was arrested and bullied by a police officer after refusing to let him take blood from an unconscious patient in hospital in July.

After a video surfaced of a Salt Lake City police officer roughly arresting and handling Nurse Alex Wubbels, it quickly went viral, prompting international outcry on social media. Wubbels was following hospital protocol and state law by refusing to let the officer, named Detective Jeff Payne, take blood from a patient without their permission, but she was subjected to violence by police at the hospital nonetheless. The nurse and her lawyers released the footage and called for a criminal investigation. Salt Lake City police have put Payne on paid leave, alongside another ‘employee’ who was involved in the incident, while investigations are pending. ‘This cop bullied me. He bullied me to the utmost extreme,’ Wubbels told The Associated Press. ‘And nobody stood in his way.’ The Salt Lake City police chief and mayor have apologised to Wubbels, but the troubling footage has once again reignited debate about police brutality in the US.
