An indigenous Australian man, Wayne Morrison, 29, was restrained by 14 officers before dying in hospital three days later.
Surveillance footage of the incident was played during a coroner's inquest into his death, which detailed the brutality of such treatment.
Shortly afterwards, Morrison was placed in a van with eight members of prison staff in order to be taken to Yatala Prison, Adelaide.
Counsel assisting the coroner, Anthony Crocker, told the court that after a journey of just three minutes, ‘Morrison was found to be blue and unresponsive’.
The inquest also heard Morrison was given a false name, ‘Benjamin Walters’, when taken to hospital in a coma to prevent the family from knowing his whereabouts.
