Hello, this is Anna getting you up to speed after the long weekend.

‘Affluenza teen’ released - Ethan Couch, dubbed the ‘affluenza teen’ after his crimes were blamed on his family’s wealth, has been released from prison in Texas after two years behind bars for killing four people in a drunk driving accident. Couch will have to stick to a 9pm curfew and will not be allowed to drink alcohol following his release. The group Mothers Against Drunk Driving issued a statement calling Couch’s short stint in jail ‘a grave injustice to the victims and their families who have been dealt life sentences because of one person’s devastating decision to drink and drive’. Couch was 16 at the time of the crash in 2013, and was found to have three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood for adult drivers. He was charged with manslaughter.

Puigdemont poised for extradition - German prosecutors are seeking a permit for the extradition of former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont to Spain. Prosecutors in the northern town of Schleswig announced they have requested Puigdemont to be put under arrest for extradition purposes following ‘intensive examination’ of the European arrest warrant issued by Spain. The former Catalan president has been detained at a prison in the town of Neumünster shortly after crossing over the Danish border into northern Germany. Puigdemont had been living in self-imposed exile since Catalonia’s unilateral declaration of independence in October.

Facebook hate speech - Hate speech soared on Facebook at the start of the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar last year, analysis has revealed. Evidence emerged after the platform was accused of playing a key role in the spread of hate speech in Myanmar at a time when 650,000 Rohingya refugees were forced to flee to Bangladesh following persecution. Digital researcher and analyst Raymond Serrato examined about 15,000 Facebook posts from supporters of the hardline nationalist Ma Ba Tha group.

Another one bites the dust - Celebrity couple Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum announced on Monday that they are separating after nearly nine years of marriage. The couple posted a joint statement to their respective Instagram pages.’We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,’ the pair said. ‘We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.’

Miracle rescue - A 13-year-old boy who went missing in Los Angeles after falling into a sewage pipe on Easter Sunday has miraculously survived and been rescued. Jesse Hernandez was removed from a manhole 13 hours after becoming trapped while playing in an abandoned concrete building in Griffith Park.
