A man from North Carolina, USA has been charged with a fatal shooting that was captured live on Facebook because the victim was filming at the time of the incident.

Records show Douglas Cleveland Colson is being held on a charge of first-degree murder. Union County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tony Underwood confirmed Colson was charged in the death of Prentis Robinson, but said all other questions should be aimed at the Wingate Police Department.

Wingate Police Chief Donnie Gay told media that Robinson had just left the police department mere minutes before the shooting on Monday morning, inquiring about a mobile phone that had been stolen from him.

A video shared by The Charlotte Observer allegedly shows Robinson walking down a street while broadcasting himself live on Facebook with a selfie stick, during which he is shot dead.

The camera hits the ground after gunshots ring out, and all that can be seen is the sky and trees, and the gunman running away. A car then pulls up to find a shot Robinson.

Robinson's Facebook account described him as a musician who lived in Atlanta. The Charlotte Observer reported that Robinson lived in Charlotte during the previous decade but spent much of his adult life in Wingate and graduated from a local high school.

The reason for his death is being investigated.
