Another headache for Trump - More infidelity rumours have swirled for Donald Trump. A former Playboy model gave her first televised account of an affair she alleges she had with the US President for almost a year, three months after Melania Trump have birth to their son, Barron. Karen McDougal disregarded legal risks relating to a $150,000 deal she had signed shortly before the November 2016 election by going public with the allegations. In an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, she gave intimate details about having sex with Trump ‘many dozens of times’.
McDougal said the pair conducted the affair in many locations, including Lake Tahoe, his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, as well as in Trump Tower where she was brought in through the back entrance. According to McDougal, after they had sex, he offered her money. She said that hurt, and she told him: ‘I’m not that kind of girl.’ These claims come as adult star Stormy Daniels - real name Stephanie Clifford - is gearing up for a tell-all interview about her alleged affair with Trump on Sunday.
Cancer risks - Almost four in 10 cancer cases in the UK could be prevented by lifestyle changes such as drinking less alcohol, keeping weight down, giving up smoking and avoiding sunbeds, new research has revealed. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) says that more than 2,500 cancer cases a week are avoidable. Smoking tobacco is still the leading lifestyle cause of cancer, but they also highlighted growing concerns about the nation’s growing obesity problem, with excess weight the second leading preventable cause of cancer, accounting for 6.3% of cancer cases.
Stranded whales - Roughly 150 whales have become stranded on a beach in Australia, prompting a major rescue effort. The animals were spotted by a fisherman at Hamelin Bay, about 300km (180 miles) south of Perth, early on Friday. About half of the whales were already dead, according to authorities in Western Australian (WA). Conservation officials said they were trying to save the surviving animals on the beach.
Possible trade wars - US President Donald Trump's plan for tariffs on up to $60bn of Chinese products have caused fears on the stock market and could now trigger a trade war. China responded to news of the planned tariffs by saying that while it did not want a trade war, it was ‘absolutely not afraid’ of one. Trump's proposed tariffs are a response to allegations of intellectual property theft by China. The US launched a complaint against China at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Friday. Its statement said: ‘China appears to be breaking WTO rules by denying foreign patent holders, including US companies, basic patent rights to stop a Chinese entity from using the technology after a licensing contract ends.’
Timely death - The founder of Toys R Us has died aged 94, one week after his company announced it was shutting for good. Charles Lazarus began selling toys in 1957 after he returned from World War II military service. His death comes after the company announced it would close all US and UK shops and seek bankruptcy protection.
A hawk in power - Donald Trump is replacing US National Security Adviser HR McMaster with hawkish neoconservative and former United Nations ambassador John Bolton, raising prospects of future wars overseas. Trump tweeted to thank Gen McMaster, saying he had done an ‘outstanding job & will always remain my friend’.Bolton, who has backed attacking North Korea and Iran, told Fox News his job would be to ensure the president has ‘the full range of options’. He becomes Trump's third national security chief in 14 months.
