Mystery uncovered? - Bones discovered on a Pacific island in 1940 are ‘likely’ to be those of female pilot Amelia Earhart, whose plane vanished in 1937 over the Pacific Ocean. Many theories and conspiracies have tried to uncover the mystery of her disappearance. A new study published in Forensic Anthropology claims these bones prove she died as an island castaway. The report claims they are a 99% match, contradicting an earlier conclusion.
Antihistamines danger - Over-the-counter antihistamines, used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as hay fever, hives and reactions to insect bites or stings, may cause harm to men’s fertility. An Argentinian review of studies involving the commonly taken drugs has found that they could have negative long-term side effects for male fertility. The study found a number of papers reported adverse effects of antihistamine on normal testicular function.
Trade wars - Donald Trump implemented his plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports on Thursday, saying the levies were necessary for national security and to stop the ‘assault on our country’. Surrounded by steel and aluminium workers and staff, Trump said he had to stop the ‘decimation of entire communities’ and insisted there would be a very fair process. Canada and Mexico will be exempted as they are the closest neighbours. ‘Steel is steel,’ said Trump. ‘Without steel you don’t have a country.’
‘Bully’ Weinstein - Oprah Winfrey opened up about her former relationship with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein in an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. ‘What I knew about Harvey was that Harvey was a bully and that if Harvey's on the phone, you go “God, you don't want to take the call,” because you're going to get bullied in some way,’ Winfrey said. She said that Weinstein pressured her to have certain guests on her talk show. Winfrey also reiterated that she had no knowledge of Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct revealed by the New York Times and The New Yorker last year.
Back in the spotlight - Barack Obama might become the moderator of a new series on Netflix or act as a producer of a show about uplifting American stories. He may also do both. Talks are underway between Obama and Netflix, according to CNN. A source close to the discussions said it would be a ‘production partnership’ and said the deal has not been finalised yet. Michelle will also be involved in a series of shows for Netflix if the deal goes ahead.
Blow for women - A woman who removed her Islamic headscarf in public in December has been sentenced to two years in prison in Iran. Iran's Tasnim news agency on Wednesday quoted prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi as saying the unidentified woman took off her headscarf in Tehran's Enghelab Street to ‘encourage corruption through the removal of the hijab in public’.
