The prominent online figure says he doesn't expect to be forgiven

A string of famous YouTubers have been the subject of fierce criticism since the explosion of their popularity, but the latest video posted by Logan Paul has prompted a backlash like no other

.

The American star, who has over 15 million subscribers on YouTube, has apologised after sharing a video showing the body of a man who had allegedly committed suicide in Japan.

Paul and his friends discovered the dead body in Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji, a site famous for the number of people who go there to take their own lives.

The poorly judged post attracted condemnation from nearly every corner of the internet, with some critics branding it ‘disgusting’ and ‘disrespectful’. Paul has since removed the video and issued an apology, but this hasn’t done enough to hush the outrage.

In a video apology posted on Twitter, Paul said: ‘I have made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don't expect to be forgiven. I should have never posted the video. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through.

‘There's a lot of things I should have done differently, but I didn't. I'm ashamed of myself. I'm disappointed in myself.’

He also issued a written apology on the micro-blogging site, saying that he is ‘still a human being’ and ‘can do wrong’.
