Hello, this is Anna getting you caught up on today's headlines.

Tarantino regretful - Quentin Tarantino has responded to allegations that he forced actor Uma Thurman into unsafe working conditions during the filming of Kill Bill, calling his decision to get her to perform a stunt ‘the biggest regret of my life’. Thurman accused the director of bullying her into driving an unsafe car that then crashed, calling the incident ‘dehumanisation to the point of death’.

South African political dilemma - Jacob Zuma’s annual state of the nation address has been postponed, adding to speculation that the embattled South African president will leave office soon. The delay in address highlights the crisis within the ruling African National Congress as the party tries to manage a chaotic transfer of power from the incumbent president to his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Markets in disarray - European markets followed Asian markets lower on Tuesday as investors continued to get rid of shares. London, Frankfurt and Paris all fell at the open with losses of up to 3%, before recovering slightly. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed down 4.7%. The sell-off began last week after data in the US showed stronger wage growth, which raised expectations that US interest rates might start to rise more quickly to tackle inflation.

A beloved star dies - Actor John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane in the US sitcom Frasier, has died aged 77. He died on Sunday while in hospice care in Chicago. He will be best remembered for playing the father of Frasier and Niles Crane in the hit comedy, which ran for 11 seasons from 1993-2004.

Irony - The federal judge Donald Trump tried to insult by calling him ‘Mexican’ during his campaign will preside over a case brought against the president’s plans for a US-Mexico border wall. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel will on Friday hear the case brought by the state of California, some environmental groups and representative Raul Grijalva, Arizona.
